Peek of the Week Nov. 30-Dec. 4

Spelling – This week we will be learning how to spell Christmas words. Our spelling words are: Jesus, Christ, Christmas, Bethlehem, shepherds, Joseph, Mary, star, angels, joy, manger, stable, donkey, singing, lights, snowflakes, stockings, ornaments, presents, December.
* Please notice that some of the words need to be capitalized. This is very important. I will count off one point if a word needs to be capitalized and it is not. I will count off two points if a word is capitalized and does not need to be capitalized. Be careful!
Reading: Our story this week is: “Pumpkin Fiesta”
Genre: Story – A story has characters, a setting, and a plot.
Vocabulary
1. boasted – bragged
2. crept – moved slowly
3. crown – a pretty head covering, often with points
4. village – a group of houses that is not as large as a town
5. vines – plants with long stems that need to be held up
Math: We will have a Ch. 5 test on Thursday.
Timed Test on Wednesday – 50 addition problems sums of 18 in 3 minutes. Thursday: 25 subtraction facts in 2 minutes differences of 3
Social Science: We will begin a unit on government.
Requests and Reminders:
*Class spelling bee on Thursday. All children must participate. The word list was sent home a month ago.
*Scholastic Book Fair: Monday-Wednesday
*Dec. 2: Second grade has the privilege of watching the Upper School drama club perform "The Lion King, Jr."
*Look for an email to come home about our December outreach project.
*Prospective Parent Open House: Dec. 3 at 9:30 am in the Media Center.
