Spelling: Special Sounds this week: er in verse, ur in nurse, ir in bird, wor in worm. Our spelling words are: her, serve, verse, hurt, turn, curl, stir, girl, first, third, shirt, skirt, word, work, world, birthday, some, come, love, have
Reading: Our story this week is “Hedgehog Bakes a Cake.”
Genre: Story – A story has characters, a setting, and a plot.
Vocabulary
1. batter – thick liquid mixture used in cooking
2. buttery – full of or covered with butter
3. perfect – as good as something can be
4. recipe – set of instructions, or steps, used when cooking or baking
5. smeared – spread something sticky or greasy
6. yellow cake – cake that is yellow because it contains egg yolks
Math: Continue with Ch. 4
Timed test: addition, sums of 16, 50 problems in 3 minutes
Language: compound words and contractions
Social Science: We will have a test on weather this Thursday, Oct. 29th. A study guide was sent home.
Requests and Reminders:
*This week, we will be working on the book report. Your child needs to know the characters, setting, and plot of the story. Please do not write this down for them as spelling does not count. We want them to be able to read and recall the details on their own.
*If you are making a pumpkin for bonus points, please send this to school on Friday.
*Thursday we will have a pumpkin party at 1:30 pm. An email went home about this. If you are willing to volunteer to lead a small group in discovering a pumpkin, please email your teacher.
*Friday is a non-uniform day. No Halloween costumes please. Don't forget your quarter.
