Peek of the Week of Jan.12-16
Bible Verse: Genesis 1:31 "God saw all that He had made, and it was very good."
Spelling: Special sounds: le in little; y in baby
Spelling Words: Bible, table, tiny, lady, cozy, happy, daddy, puppy, penny, pretty, bubble, middle, puddle, puzzle, giggle, freckle, people, busy, laugh together
Vocabulary words:
1. eager: wanting very much to do or get something.
2. command: an order
3. destroy: to ruin
Reading: Our story this week is: “Cool Ali”
Genre: Realistic Fiction. Realistic fiction is a story that shows characters as they are in real life.
Vocabulary Words:
1. admired – to have noticed something and liked it
2. fussed – showed unhappiness; complained
3. haze – misty, smoky, or dusty air
4. mimicked – copied
5. notice – to be aware of
6. pale – light in color
Math: We will have a timed test on Wednesday. 50 subtraction problems with differences of 0-4. We will give them 4 minutes.
We will continue in Chapter 6. Chapter 6 covers two digit subtraction with and without regrouping.
Writing: We will begin cursive writing this week. Your child will bring home a cursive writing worksheet almost every night. We will do the front in class and then they will do the back for homework. I will give instructions, in class, on how the letters are formed, and I am sending home an instruction sheet, that you may keep, and refer to at home. Remember we use the D’Nealian cursive letters. We have told the children that they may not write their name in cursive (in class) until we have learned all of the lower case letters.
Social Science: In Social Studies this week, we will be learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. In Science we will learn about Forces and Motion. We will have a matching vocabulary test on the following words on Thursday, Jan. 15th.
force: a push or pull that makes something move
wind: moving air
gravity: a force that pulls things toward the center of Earth
magnet: a piece of iron or steel that attracts, or pulls, iron or steel
motion: the act of moving

*Student Holidays - Friday, January 16th and Monday, January 19th.
*Report cards come home on Monday. Please sign and return the white copy IN the envelope. We will send a nice copy home with your student.
